Description

This Meadow Mix for Cracks brings together 26 species of low-growing perennial or annual plants to sow in the gaps between paving stones, as well as in the cracks between stones of a wall or rockery. They limit the appearance of "weeds" and the need for weeding while adding a bit of colour to this mineral environment that is difficult to vegetate. Selected for their dense yet non-aggressive root system, these plants will not damage the surfaces or widen the cracks. The seeds are sown early in spring or late summer, in freshly prepared soil free of weeds. This selection will flower for several years and some plants will self-seed wherever they please.

All the plants in this mix show rather rapid growth in ordinary, well-draining soil. Not very demanding, they tolerate a wide range of soils as long as they are not too clayey, too acidic, or too dry. The annuals will flower 6 to 8 weeks after sowing, while the perennials will produce flowers from April in the second year. Their flowering period generally extends from April to August once all the plants are established. One seed packet covers approximately 3 square metres (32 square feet). The plant height does not exceed 20 cm (7.9 in) when in bloom.

Partial composition: Alpine rock cress (Arabis alpina), common daisy (Bellis perennis), Amur river pink (Dianthus amurensis), sweet alyssum (Lobularia maritima).

This meadow mix is very fashionable and combines usefulness with pleasure: blooming throughout the entire summer season, it restores ecological balance, promotes biodiversity, and requires very little maintenance. Watering if the weather is very dry will be more than enough. Invite nature into your garden: sow our flower mixes along pathways, near bushes, close to the vegetable garden, or on the embankment bordering a sunken path, near your fruit trees, or at the back of the garden bordering the countryside.

Planting and care

Sowing:

Shake the mixture well to mix up the seeds. Sow directly in place, in March-April, or in September-October, in well-worked soil that is free of weeds and raked. Sow thinly on the surface of the soil, then lightly rake to cover the seeds. Roll or press the soil with the back of a spade. Water and keep moist until germination. Germination normally takes 14 to 30 days.

Cultivation:

When the young plants appear, water well and remove weeds. In autumn, at the end of flowering, seeds can be collected and sown elsewhere. Water well to make the seeds adhere to the soil.

Once the plants are well established, water your flower bed only in case of prolonged drought.
