Description

The 'Cool Wave® Fire' Pansy is a hybrid variety of Viola x wittrockiana named for its flamboyant colours. Three bright yellow petals speckled with intense dark red, along with whiskers, make up its mischievous face. Its trailing habit and extremely generous flowering from October to April make it the essential ally for hanging baskets. Resistant to bad weather, it also carpets borders with its vibrant shades.

The 'Cool Wave®' series represents a new generation of trailing pansies. They have excellent branching and form a clump that can reach 20 cm (7.9 in) in height and 20 to 40 cm (7.9 to 15.7 in) in width. This size can be further enhanced by applying fertilizer every 15 days. They thrive in balconies, thanks to their trailing habit, and offer impressive floribundance. An ephemeral perennial plant, grown in our latitudes as a biennial, this Viola has many small serrated leaves, of medium green colour and elliptical shape. Above these leaves, numerous small flowers measuring 3 to 4 cm (1.2 to 1.6 in), composed of five petals. The very cheerful colours, yellow and dark red, of 'Cool Wave® Fire' are adorned with whiskers. Feel free to pick a few flowers to garnish your dishes, their petals are edible (if you choose to grow them without treatment).

Planted in summer, they will bloom from autumn onwards. Vigorous, these Pansies withstand unfavorable weather conditions and tolerate periods of frost, even the most severe. You will then see them wilt and revive as soon as the frost passes. They will accompany you throughout the winter, while being more discreet, and will continue to bloom in spring.

Joyful and lively, 'Cool Wave® Fire' Pansies are to be kept near the house to enjoy them for a long time. In window boxes on window sills, in pots near entrances and on the terrace. However, as they are accommodating, also place them at the front of borders to attract attention, they will easily fit in between spring bulbs. Close to crocuses, they will enliven their yellow and, when combined with Fritillaria meleagris, they will brighten them up.

Note: Attention, our plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, transplant them as soon as possible, in pots, window boxes, or directly in borders.

Planting and care

The plugs of 'Cool Wave® Fire' pansies will be transplanted directly into pots or containers upon receipt. Monitor watering and regularly fertilize (about twice a month).

If you wish to plant them in the ground, first transplant them into a bucket. Also, monitor watering but do not overwater the soil. There is no need to keep them in a greenhouse, they will be satisfied with a non-scorching exposure. After a good month, you can transplant them directly into place.

Remove faded flowers as they appear to stimulate the growth of new buds.
