Description

This Surfinia Petunia forms a true cascade of large double intense red flowers from June to October.

Trailing petunias are recently obtained and remarkable for their larger size, 40 cm (16in). Resistant to drought and heat, they like very sunny situations.

Sold as growing plants from 4 to 8cm (2 to 3in) in 5 small plug plant cases, 2.8 cm (1in) in diameter and 4 cm (2in) high. Our plants are at least eight weeks old and strong enough to be planted in the soil.

Note: Attention, plug plants are products for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them under cover (veranda, greenhouse, frame...) at a temperature above 14C° for a few weeks before being planted outside once the risk of frost is passed.

Planting and care

You can plant your petunias in the ground or in a pot. If you wish to plant them in the ground, wait until the last heavy frosts have passed (surfinia petunias can tolerate a small late frost). In the meantime, you can grow them on in a pot in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth. Plant your petunias in a sunny location sheltered from the wind. They need light, humus-bearing, well-draining soil. Do not water them too much at the beginning of their growth as they are sensitive to excess moisture. They tolerate drought well, but will need regular watering during hot summer weather. They are floriferous and fast-growing, hungry plants. We recommend feeding them with a liquid fertiliser once or twice a week during the growth period. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to keep them looking beautiful and prolong flowering.
