From a botanical perspective, conifers correspond to the division of pinophytes, a large family of woody plants whose growth is theoretically on a single and straight trunk, which branches out into lateral branches. Their foliage, most often evergreen, is made up of needles, like those of pines, spruces, cedars, or firs, or scales in the case of cypresses or junipers. These are plants without flowers in the strict sense of the term, meaning that their reproductive organs are 'naked', actually devoid of petals and sepals. Most conifers produce male individuals distinct from female individuals that bear fruiting structures commonly called 'pine cones'.
