A selection of exotic perennials for a jungle or exotic effect. More or less hardy depending on the case, these plants can be grown in the garden or in pots for overwintering. Cannas, ornamental ginger (Hedychiums), elephant ears (Colocasia and Alocasia) are among the most popular for creating tropical-inspired landscapes. Among the hardiest are marsh hibiscus (Hibiscus moscheutos) with their oversized flowers, numerous ferns, and giant hostas. But there are many others, with a very different style, especially among cacti and succulents that seduce many gardeners with their desert charm! Plants with spectacular tropical foliage generally thrive in humid and temperate climates; the magnificence of Gunneras comes to mind. However, the rhubarb we welcome in the vegetable garden, despite its modesty, has little to envy its exotic cousins, and above all, it is much hardier! And because opulence is not necessarily synonymous with a humid undergrowth and rich soil, there are also exotic perennial plants that are better suited to dry and sunny conditions, such as Beschorneria or Phormiums, for example.
