Carlina

The carlines are species of thistles from the Asteraceae family that grow in the mountains of Europe. They bloom from late spring to mid-summer in large white or yellow-orange heads on a short stem emerging from a rosette of thorny leaves. Carlines are planted in dry, hot, and sunny locations. They require well-drained and poor soil as the roots can rot in damp soil during winter. These perennials are perfect for rock gardens or on rocky soil.
