Our range of evergreen Viburnums are decorative shrubs in all seasons, even winter. The best known among gardeners is undoubtedly laurustinus or Viburnum tinus, an excellent evergreen hedging bush, very dense, very robust, with glossy foliage, which flowers from autumn to the end of winter depending on the climate. This species native to the Mediterranean basin has produced some lovely varieties such as Viburnum tinus 'Gwenlian', compact and particularly floriferous, or 'Variegatum' with variegated yellow cream foliage. Less well known is the David Viburnum (Viburnum davidii), a ground cover bush with glossy dark green foliage, whose decorative blue and shiny fruits persist for a long time. Viburnum rhytidophyllum is a vigorous and undemanding Chinese viburnum with large wrinkled, embossed, pendulous leaves of dark and glossy green, beautiful cream-white spring flowering, followed by pretty red berries that turn black when ripe. And to combine fragrance, colour and winter beauty, think of the fragrant viburnum (Viburnum odoratissimum), a large bush whose glossy foliage turns partially red in autumn. Its lovely white flowering is slightly fragrant, and it produces decorative fruit at the end of the season. Evergreen viburnums are excellent as hedging bushes or in large shrub borders. Some smaller varieties grow very well in pots.
