In order to thrive harmoniously, bushes need to be planted in soil that is as close as possible to the conditions of their natural environment: some, like Cotinus, love lean, rocky, and limestone terrains. On the other hand, a large number of plants in the Ericaceae family appreciate acidic and loose soils (heathers, rhododendrons, andromedas) and will quickly turn yellow in limestone soil. Some, like hazel, appreciate heavy clay soils. Others, like Nyssa sylvatica or the glutinous alder, require moist soil and dislike drought. Finally, the most adaptable ones, like Berberis thunbergii or the bloodtwig dogwood, demonstrate a great capacity for adaptation and will thrive in almost any situation (not too extreme, though)!
Regardless of the type of terrain and soil you have, you will find a wide range of suitable bushes in these lists!

You'll adore them!
