Conifer hedges

Conifer hedges are dense, compact, and remains green all year round, even in winter. It serves as an excellent windbreak or privacy screen, with a neutral colour that is both simple, effective, and elegant. Leylandii cypresses, Thuyas, and false cypresses are among the best hedge conifers, thanks to their rapid growth, ease of cultivation in any good garden soil, and tolerance to repeated pruning. Their foliage is more varied than often thought, both in terms of texture and different shades of green. For example, Thuja occidentalis 'Smaragd' (Emerald) has a deep emerald green colour, while Cupressocyparis 'Castlewellan Gold' sometimes takes on a beautiful slightly aniseed golden hue. Their growth can easily be controlled by one or two annual prunings, depending on the variety.
