Description

The walleriana is a very floriferous species of Impatiens with double flowers. Its flowers are deep red. It blooms from May to October.

Impatiens are the ideal plants to brighten up a shady or semi-shady corner. In a pot on a terrace or in a bed at the base of a tree, they bring freshness, charm, and elegance. The double walleriana Impatiens have a compact and well-branched habit. The finely dentate, pointed oval leaves are glossy green.

They can also be grown indoors as perennials. In this case, they should be pruned back in spring.

Young plants measuring 4 to 8cm (2 to 3in) in plug plant trays of 5 small plugs with a diameter of 2.8cm (1in) and a height of 4cm (2in). Our plants are at least eight weeks old and are strong enough to be planted in the ground.

Note: Please be aware that our young plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, transplant and store them in a sheltered place (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before planting them outside once the risk of frost is definitively gone.

Planting and care

You can plant your Impatiens wallerianas in the ground or in a pot. If you want to plant them in the ground, wait until the frost has passed (Impatiens cannot tolerate frost, even light frost). In the meantime, you can pre-cultivate them in a pot in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth (be careful, not too much direct sunlight). Plant your Impatiens in a shady or semi-shady location. They need a fairly rich soil that retains moisture. They are sensitive to drought. They will need regular watering during hot summer weather. Very floriferous and fast-growing, they are hungry plants. We recommend feeding them with a liquid fertilizer for containers once or twice a week during the growing season. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to keep them looking good and extend the flowering period. Be careful, remember to protect them from slugs that enjoy their young leaves.
