Hemerocallis Neyron Rose - Daylily

The Daylily or Hemerocallis Neyron Rose is an old variety with dormant foliage renowned for its robustness and hardiness. Forming a beautiful fountain of long and slender bright green foliage, it offers charming flowers in the summer with a very vibrant colour, an intense raspberry pink finely edged with cream, each petal being crossed by a white-to-cream midline. The flower's yellow-orange throat completes a palette of decidedly warm shades. Very reliable and robust, this large perennial lives up to expectations. Invite it into your garden!

The Hemerocallis genus belongs to the Liliaceae family. They are perennial and hardy plants with deciduous foliage, sometimes semi-evergreen. The 'Neyron Rose' variety, obtained in 1950, grows rapidly in a dense clump that will reach a height of 70-75 cm (28-30in), with a relative spread of 40 cm (16in); hemerocallis tends to spread a little when they like the soil. The flowers, of modest size but richly coloured, measure about 12 cm (5in) in diameter; the petals in this variety are thick and ovate, with a slightly wavy texture. Each flower lasts no more than a day, but the flowering repeats continuously over a beautiful period between June and July. They have a unique pink colour, known as "Neyron rose," in reference to the ancient rose 'Paul Neyron' with its unique colour. The foliage is linear, abundant and is deciduous. Hemerocallis are plants with short rhizomes and fleshy roots that tolerate dry soils but are more opulent and floriferous in moist soil.

Very easy to grow, these plants thrive equally well in shade or the sun. Some can be invasive, so don't hesitate to divide the clumps every four or five years, preferably in autumn, after flowering. The hemerocallis is often called  "the perfect perennial plant" due to its vibrant colours and ability to tolerate any environment. It is also due to its lack of modesty; it is exuberant and goes well with other perennials. Plant them in generous clumps in the background of your flowerbeds. All summer bulb flowers can be planted together with hemerocallis. 'Neyron Rose' will fit perfectly into the setting of a romantic garden, with bellflowers, penstemons, perennial flaxes, lemon yellow hemerocallis, or phlox by its side. Large pots of at least 30 cm (12in) deep on a balcony or terrace should be used, choosing from among the dwarf varieties. The flowers are edible: they brighten up salads and decorate desserts.
