Description

The Triumph Tulip 'Pink Proud' is a recent Dutch selection, known for its late flowering period from April to May. This very elegant tulip with a narrow corolla offers petals of a very dark and intense magenta pink. The flowers stand at the top of thick and sturdy stems, reaching a height of 60cm (24in) above the widely lanceolate green and deciduous leaves.

The Triumph Tulip 'Pink Proud' belongs to the Liliaceae family. Originally horticultural, it is currently classified in the 'Triumph' group, characterized by narrow cup-shaped flowers. They are the result of cross-breeding between early single tulips and Darwin tulips. With their wide range of colours, strong and resistant flowers, suitable for both flower beds and bouquets, the popularity of Triumph tulips is well-established. They are among the most widely planted varieties.

Unmatched for bringing the colours of spring to pots or sunny gardens, don't forget to consider the height and flowering period when designing your flower beds, as these parameters can vary significantly from one cultivar to another. It is wise to plant a few more bulbs for cutting, as they make stunning cut flowers that last a long time in a vase.

Tulip species are found in most parts of the Old World, from Western Europe to China and Japan, through Eastern Europe, Asia Minor, and Central Asia. Their distribution area also includes North Africa and the Indian subcontinent. The centre of diversity for the genus is located in the Pamir and Hindu Kush mountains and the steppes of Kazakhstan.

Planting and care

Plant the bulbs in autumn, from September to December, at a depth of 15cm (6in), spacing them 10cm (4in) apart. The planting should be done in ordinary soil, slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly alkaline, loose, well-worked, and well-drained. Never add poorly decomposed manure or compost to the planting soil, as this could cause the bulbs to rot. Tulips will grow well in moist to dry soil in summer. Plant them in a good location, sunny or partially shaded. Once flowering is finished, it is preferable to remove the fruits to avoid exhausting the plant.
