This Spear & Jackson draw hoe is a very efficient 2-in-1 tool for maintaining hard and compact soils. The hoe is an essential tool, designed for weeding the vegetable or ornamental garden without resorting to the use of chemicals and for working the topsoil. The draw hoe is a wide and low-height hoe, securely fitted, specifically adapted for maintaining hard, clayey or clay/loamy soils. This tool requires working with choppy, jerky movements to create small furrows. The rake is used to cut the 'weeds' at the root and loosen the topsoil. It is best to use it in dry weather. You will more easily eliminate young weeds. Regular soil maintenance is highly recommended. This Spear & Jackson model is equipped with a beech handle and a socket where the head with a sharpened steel blade is attached, resistant to shocks, torsion, and corrosion. The handle is compostable, the metal head is recyclable.

Hoeing has been part of the gardener's vocabulary since the Middle Ages, the action of hoeing meaning "to do twice". After hoeing, i.e. cutting the weeds sharply at the neck at the soil surface, the gardener uses the hoe for the second time to dislodge their roots and loosen the surface layer of soil. The soil is thus aerated all around the cultivated plants in the vegetable garden or ornamental garden. According to the old saying, "hoeing is worth two waterings": after watering or rain, clayey or loamy soil tends to harden when drying, forming a compacted crust. Very difficult to rehydrate and suffocating for plants, this crust also promotes the rise of water to the surface and its evaporation. Breaking it after watering limits water evaporation.

The Spear & Jackson company has been selling tools for gardening, agriculture, and landscaping to both professionals and amateurs since 1760! Today their range reflects all this experience by offering innovative, superior quality products adapted to a wide range of uses.

This tool is under warranty. This warranty does not apply to handles or grips, only to metal parts except consumables (screws, springs, etc.) and within the scope of normal use.

Directions for use The hoe is an essential tool, designed for weeding the vegetable garden or ornamental garden without resorting to the use of chemical products and for working the soil on the surface. The draw hoe is a hoe specifically adapted to the maintenance of hard soils, with a tendency towards clay or clay/loam. This tool requires choppy, jerky movements to draw small furrows. The draw hoe is used to cut the 'weeds' under the root and to loosen the soil on the surface. It is best to use it in dry weather. You will more easily eliminate young weeds. Regular soil maintenance is strongly recommended. According to the old saying, "one hoeing is worth two waterings". After watering or rain, soil with a tendency towards clay or loam will tend to harden when drying, forming a compacted crust that is very difficult to rehydrate and suffocating for plants. Compacted soil also promotes the upward movement of water and its evaporation. By preventing the formation of this crust after watering, water evaporation is reduced. Clean your tool after use and store it away from the sun and bad weather.
