The Primula x tommasinii You And Me Blue, also known as variable primrose or hybrid primrose You And Me Blue, is a small perennial or biennial, perfectly original. It offers a bright and unique flowering in spring, in the form of pairs of white to pale blue and blue flowers with a yellow heart, stacked at the end of each stem. This unique characteristic is particularly highlighted by the combination of colours. Ideal for borders and planters, in ordinary and fresh soil. Very hardy, and well highlighted near a passage, this small plant will undoubtedly be the star of the garden in spring.
Â
Primula x tommasinii is a plant from the Primulaceae family resulting from cross-breeding between Primula veris and Primula acaulis. It forms pretty flowering rosettes of 15 cm (5.9 in) in height by 20 cm (7.9 in) in width. 'Me And You Blue' is a rare hybrid, offering an astonishing flowering, actually composed of two layers of stacked flowers in a single flower. It shows two distinct levels of petals, each level constituting an individual flower. These tiered flowers are arranged in umbels above a light, fresh green, waffled leaf. Each plant produces pairs of corollas, one of which is lighter than the other, in blue shades, from the lightest to the deepest. Place them near a passage so that their unique flowers can be admired up close. The common English name "hose in hose" and refers to the ruffs that gentlemen wore in the late 1500s when this species was discovered.
Â
The variable primrose is versatile and really easy to succeed. The Me And You Blue variety deserves to be in all gardens. Colourful, bright and flowering, it beautifully marks the return of spring. In the borders of flowerbeds or in planters on a balcony, this small plant forms a charming picture, in the company of pink or orange tulips, and forget-me-nots. It is ideal in borders, low flowerbeds under the cover of leafy trees, in rockeries and short grass meadows, among snowdrops and violets. The leaves and flowers are edible and can be eaten raw or cooked.
A rare evening primrose with an astonishing layers flower-in-a-flower. Two distinct levels of petals are formed on each individual flower that form clusters above the fresh crumpled leaf. The plants come from a single colour per plant in tones ranging from sky to deep blue. Place them near a track so that its unique flowers can be noticed. The unusual common name refers to the gentleman's hosiery styles of the late 1500s when this species was discovered.
Extremely frost resistant. This Primula will certainly turn heads and start the conversation.

Botanical data
To sow primroses, start at the end of winter using a special sowing compost in a bright but semi-shady location. Arrange the seeds on top of the compost, seal them in a clear plastic bag and cover them with a glass plate. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged and wait for germination, which should take 14 to 30 days at 15-18°C. If the temperature is too high, it may inhibit germination.
Once the primroses have grown, transplant them into 7.5 cm (3 in) diameter pots or buckets. Keep them in a cool and humid environment before transplanting them to open ground, maintaining a 23 cm (9.1 in) spacing between each plant. Plant them in well-drained, fertile, and humus-rich soil in the sun or partial shade. After planting, water them well in the weeks following, especially in dry weather, to ensure recovery. Regular watering throughout the summer will also be necessary in case of high heat and drought. No particular care is needed except for removing faded flowers and leaves.
For pot culture, ensure good drainage at the bottom of the container with a gravel layer, shards of terracotta pots, or clay balls. A mix of leaf compost and garden soil will be suitable. Place the pot in partial shade or sun and water regularly to keep the substrate slightly moist. Add a liquid feed every two weeks to support flowering and remove faded flowers to extend the flowering period.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
