Our range of Indigofera or indigo bushes. The Indigofera heterantha (gerardiana), one of the most popular, is a bush that charms with its pendulous clusters of papilionaceous flowers in a bright pink. It reaches a height of 1.5 to 2 meters and fits perfectly in flowerbeds or as a free hedge. The Indigofera kirilowii is interesting for cooler climates. Its small clusters of pale pink flowers bloom early in the summer, and its compact habit (0.6 to 1 meter) is suitable for small gardens. The Indigofera tinctoria, or true indigo, is another remarkable species, historically grown for blue dye production. It forms a small bush of about 1 to 1.5 meters and produces similar pink flowers. This species prefers a rich, well-drained soil and a sunny exposure.
The Indigofera genus comprises around 700 species, mainly originating from tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, Asia, and America. Indigofera enrich the soil through their ability to fix nitrogen. Prune them lightly in spring and provide them with well-drained soil to avoid excess moisture.
