Description

The Bacopa Gulliver Dynamic White, also known as Sutera cordata, is a robust and very floriferous annual plant, decorative for much of the summer. Its countless white flowers with yellow hearts appear to be pinned to its long spreading and creeping stems. It thrives in the sun as well as partial shade, and its semi-drooping habit is ideal for hanging baskets.

Bacopas are frost-tender perennial plants from the Scrophulariaceae family, native to South Africa. They develop woody stems that spread all around the base, quickly forming a fairly bushy plant, 15 cm (5.9 in) tall by 45 cm (17.7 in) wide. They are adorned with small green heart-shaped leaves, about 1.5 cm (0.4 in) long, opposite and toothed along the edges. The stems are covered with numerous flowers of almost identical size throughout the summer, generously scattered along their length. The white flowers have a tubular base and spread into corollas composed of five rounded lobes, surrounding a yellow heart.

Thanks to their silhouette, bacopas easily complement all balcony plants. They can be paired with taller plants such as dwarf roses or geraniums, but they are equally effective when grouped together. Bacopa Gulliver Dynamic White is perfect for brightening up a windowsill or the base of a wall partially exposed to the sun. It will accompany pastel flowers and temper vibrant colours with its brilliant whiteness.

Note: Please be aware that our young plants in mini-plugs are professional products intended for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, transplant and store them under shelter (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C for a few weeks before installing them outdoors once all risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

Plant your bacopas in a sunny location or possibly partial shade. These plants require a light and humus-bearing soil and appreciate fertiliser. They tolerate a rather dry soil quite well. You can plant your bacopas in a pot. In a pot, they should be watered regularly. Usually grown as annuals, they are actually fragile perennials: by bringing them indoors at the first frost, you can extend their flowering during autumn and winter. Outdoor cultivation is possible by the seaside, with good winter mulching. Prune lightly in March. To further branch out the bacopas, you can pinch the ends of the stems to encourage them to divide.
