More information

This annual everlasting variety offers bright yellow double flowers from June to October, twice the size of those on classic bractless everlastings. Of medium height, the plant has an upright habit and reaches a height of 40 to 60 cm (16 to 24in) when in bloom. It thrives in sunny locations and well-drained soil. Impressive in pots, as a border plant, and beautiful in fresh or dried bouquets.

Description

The Bracteantha Granvia Gold is a selection of medium-sized bracteantha, whose golden yellow flowers are twice as wide as those of usual varieties, well known to dried bouquet enthusiasts. It is a particularly generous annual plant that forms a beautiful, very flowery cushion for almost 5 months if you regularly remove faded flowers. Whether in the ground or in pots, its vivid golden yellow head flowers enliven borders, rockeries, or flower boxes. They also look very pretty in floral arrangements.

The Bracteantha bracteatum Granvia Gold is a very recent horticultural creation. This selection comes from the bracteantha, an annual species native to Australia. Like all plants in the asteraceae family, it has flowers organized in heads, but the heads of the bracteantha distinguish themselves from daisies and centaureas by the absence of ray florets or petals, which are replaced by scaly, coloured, and shiny bracts. This characteristic allows the inflorescences to last a long time once they are dry, as the bracts do not "wilt" like petals. The Granvia Gold selection is a plant with an upright habit, compact and reaches an average height of 50 cm (20in) when flowering, with a width of 30-35 cm (12-14in). Its rough stems are branched, covered with small, simple, lanceolate, medium green, villous leaves with a slight bluish tint, measuring 5 to 10 cm (2 to 4in) long. Together, they form a dense clump. Flowering occurs from summer to early autumn, usually from June to October. It is nectar-rich and highly visited by butterflies. The Granvia Gold heads easily measure 6 cm (2in) in diameter.

The Granvia Gold bracteanthas are suitable for cultivation in flower boxes, rockeries, border beds, or even among perennials and low bushes. They can be combined with brightly colored marigolds, diascias, Californian poppies, or Bidens, for example. To preserve the flowers for making dried bouquets, the heads should be picked before they fully open. The stems should be hung upside down in a well-ventilated, dark room. Once the stems are completely dry, the foliage can be removed.

Note: Please be aware that our young plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, repot and store them in a sheltered location (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before planting them outdoors once the risk of frost has definitively passed.

Planting and care

You can plant your Granvia Gold everlasting flowers in the ground or in a pot. If you plant them in the ground, wait until the last frost has passed (they tolerate a little frost). In the meantime, you can pre-cultivate them in a pot in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth. Plant them in a sunny location. They require a light and humus-rich soil and appreciate a fertilizer input. They can tolerate occasional dry soil. In a pot, they should be watered regularly.
