Description

Nemesia 'Sunsatia Plus Strawberry' is an excellent variety of nemesia, resistant to bad weather, very floriferous and brilliantly coloured. Its large strawberry-red corollas with a golden yellow heart, slightly fragrant, open in abundance on vegetation that is both dense and semi-trailing, ideal for hanging baskets and containers. This annual plant of rare generosity is capable of flowering from the end of winter until autumn. Place it in a gently sunny position, in fertile and well-drained soil.

Nemesia strumosa, also known as African Nemesia, is an annual plant of the Scrophulariaceae family native to South Africa, with rapid growth. It is the decendant of many horticultural varieties whose performance in terms of flowering and durability is constantly being improved. The Sunsatia Plus series is one of these successful creations, offering continuous flowering from May to October on well-branched plants.

The 'Strawberry' variety shows large symmetrical flowers with undulating petals, of an intense red-pink that does not fade in the sun, centred on a golden yellow throat that stands out from afar. Their pleasant fragrance attracts pollinating insects. Gathered at the end of solid leafy stems, these flowers adorn a graceful clump 25 to 45 cm (10 to 18in) high and 30 to 50 cm (12 to 20in) in diameter, with a compact habit. The foliage consists of small, deeply toothed lanceolate leaves, medium green in colour. This well-branched plant is resistant to wind and rain. It is hardy to about -3°C.

From the first days of spring, the vibrant colours of nemesia illuminate the flowerbeds of cities and villages. On terraces and in gardens, with their graceful, bushy and trailing habit, these fresh plants perfectly adorn hanging baskets, balconies, all types of containers, and even perennial borders, preferably in full sun. They are easy to grow in the garden and produce spectacular results when planted in containers. Use them also to fill borders, in a mix of different colours, or in combination with geraniums, lobelias, verbenas, petunias, etc.

Note: Please be aware that our young plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them under cover (conservatory, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14°C for a few weeks before being installed outdoors once the risk of frost has definitively passed.

Planting and care

Plant your Sunsatia Plus Strawberry nemesias in a sunny location or possibly in partial shade. They require a light, fertile, and humus-rich soil and appreciate a fertiliser input. They do not tolerate high temperatures combined with significant humidity very well. You can plant your nemesias in a field of plants as well as in pots. In pots, they plants need to be regularly watered. Planting should be done after the last frost, in spring. In summer, during periods of high heat, do not hesitate to prune the plant severely (10-15 cm (4-6in) from the base) between two flowerings to promote the formation of new flowering shoots.
