A few months after planting, I can confirm: a real crush on these flowers that are still blooming in mid-November, smell deliciously good, brighten up my spaces with delicate colours. In short, next year, I will order them again, and even more to create beautiful planters!

Description

Nemesia 'Sunpeddle Painted Rose' is part of a brand new series of nemesias called 'Sunpeddle', selected for their compact and dense habit, floriferousness, and fragrant flowering. In 'Painted Rose', the corollas are almost tricoloured, in deep red and white enhanced by a touch of gold. They bloom abundantly, very early in the season and almost continuously for 6 months, creating a stunning effect in hanging baskets and containers. It is a neat and always flowering little plant, perfect for placing near the house, on the terrace or balcony.

Nemesia strumosa, also known as Elf's Mirror or African Nemesia, is a perennial plant in the Scrophulariaceae family, native to South Africa, with rapid growth. Its low frost tolerance means that it is commonly cultivated as an annual in Europe. It is the descendant of many horticultural varieties, the performance of which is constantly being improved in terms of floriferousness and longevity. The 'Sunpeddle' cultivars are part of these new and quite revolutionary creations, offering almost continuous and fragrant flowering from May to October on highly branched and upright plants.

'Painted Rose' produces a multitude of delightful small symmetrical flowers, less than 1 cm (0in) in size, half of which are deep purple-red turning mauve, while the other half is pure white. They are centred around a golden yellow throat that can be seen from afar and exude a very pleasant scent of honey and vanilla that attracts pollinating insects. Gathered at the end of sturdy leafy stems, these flowers appear to float on a graceful tuft 30 cm (12in) tall and 20 cm (8in) wide, with a dense, rounded, and upright habit. The foliage consists of small, highly toothed lanceolate leaves, gray-green in colour. This well-branched plant is resistant to wind and rain. It is hardy to about -3°C (26.6°F).

From the early days of spring, the vibrant or pastel colours of nemesias brighten up the flower beds of cities and villages. On terraces and in gardens these fresh plants, with their extremely graceful, dense and light habit, perfectly adorn hanging baskets, balcony boxes, all types of containers, and even perennial borders, preferably in full sun. They are easy to grow in the garden and yield spectacular results when planted in containers. Use them also to fill borders in a mix of colours, or in combination with geraniums, lobelias, verbenas, petunias, etc.

Note: Please be aware that our plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them under cover (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before being planted outdoors once the risk of frost has definitively passed.

Planting and care

Plant your Sunpeddle Painted Rose nemesias in a sunny location or possibly in partial shade. They require a light, fertile and humus-rich soil and appreciate a fertiliser application. They do not tolerate high temperatures combined with significant humidity very well. You can plant your nemesias in a flowerbed or in pots. When planted in pots, they should be watered regularly. Planting should be done after the last frost, in spring. In summer, during periods of high heat, do not hesitate to prune the plant severely (10-15 cm (4-6in) from the base) between two flowerings in order to promote the formation of new flowering shoots.
