Description

Osteospermum is a slightly hardy perennial with shiny green foliage, usually grown as an annual in temperate climates. It tolerates drought.

The Cape Daisy Fireburst variety has flowers of a bronze-red colour.

Its daisy-type blooms - like something from a child's drawing, with tight, intricately cut petals and a black centre - are stunning in pots in cold regions, and in the ground in areas protected from heavy frost.

Excellent for flowerpots.

Note: Please be aware that our young plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them in a sheltered location (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before planting them outdoors once the risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

Plant your Osteospermum Cape Daisy Fireburst in open ground after the last frost, in a sunny position. You can also plant it in pots placed in a sheltered position, which you will take out in May. Osteospermums require well-drained soil, but not necessarily very rich. Water moderately. In a pot, regular watering is necessary in summer. Regularly remove faded flowers to prolong flowering. You can retain your Osteospermum Cape Daisy Fireburst by bringing it indoors under a veranda or into a cold greenhouse in winter. They can withstand a light frost, but they can only spend the winter in the garden if sheltered from severe frost.
