Description

The Geranium 'Candy Flowers White' is a new variety of balcony geranium that will not disappoint. Its large umbels of single flowers, of beautiful size, in a perfect white, bloom abundantly on a compact, robust, vigorous plant that offers excellent resistance to heat, weather, and drought. And of course, it is in bloom from spring until the first cold. A champion in all categories for your balconies!

This hybrid geranium is a recent variety, resulting among others from the Pelargonium zonale, a plant from the geranium family native to South Africa. The 'Candy Flowers' pelargoniums have the particularity of having a compact and bushy, upright habit, as well as beautiful flower heads with unusual colours. Always more floriferous and with rapid growth, 'Candy Flowers White' forms a rounded clump of about 40 cm (16in) in all directions. Its leaves are round, roughly lobed, dentate on the edges, of a fairly vibrant green, slightly fleshy and aromatic. The flowering, long and abundant, takes place from May until September-October. It renews regularly, even in hot weather. The large umbels of single flowers are rounded and well-opened, composed of 6 wide, undulate petals, of pure white colour, around a pink pistil.

Florist geraniums are generous and undemanding plants, but this 'Candy Flowers White' variety surpasses them with its neat habit and purity of colour. It is a perfect plant to decorate pots for a large part of the year, without requiring much maintenance. Once reserved for balconies and terraces, pelargoniums are making a very noticeable entrance into sunny flower beds and borders. Plant them in mass to create a lasting and cheerful decoration throughout the summer. These plants tolerate water shortage quite well, which allows you to associate them with garden verbenas, lobelias with incredible blues, black or purple-leaved ipomoeas (Ipomoea 'Illusion Midnight Lace', Ipomoea 'Sweet Heart Purple'). Compose magnificent pots and hanging baskets by combining them with white or red varieties, 'Million Bells', variegated periwinkles, Dichondra 'Silver Falls', violets, calibrachoas etc.

Note: Please be aware that our young plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them in shelters (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before being installed outdoors once the risk of frost has definitively passed.

Planting and care

You can plant your 'Candy Flowers White' geraniums in the ground or in a pot. If you want to plant them in the ground, wait until the last heavy frosts have passed. In the meantime, you can prepare them in a pot in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth.

The Geraniums will flower for a long period. Plant them in a sunny or partially shaded location, sheltered from strong winds. They need a light and humus-rich soil, but above all, it must be well-draining, as they tolerate water shortage quite well, but not stagnant humidity. Do not water them too much at the beginning of the growing season, as they are sensitive to excess moisture. They tolerate drought well, but will need regular watering during hot summer periods, especially when grown in pots. Geraniums are frost-sensitive (minimum -2°C (28.4°F)).

Very floriferous and fast-growing, they are hungry plants. We recommend feeding them with a liquid geranium fertiliser once or twice a week during the growing season. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to keep them looking attractive and prolong flowering.
