Description

The 'Mrs Wren' zonal geranium offers single flowers that appear to have been hand-painted. They are red with an irregular white edge. Clustered at the end of the stems, they are enhanced by evergreen foliage of a beautiful bright green. You will appreciate its ease of cultivation and its generosity. Frost-sensitive, this plant can be grown as an annual or protected from frost until the following spring. Don't miss out on this beautiful plant for containers and borders!

From the Geraniaceae family, zonal geraniums are perennial hybrids grouped under the botanical name Pelargonium x hortorum. They are mostly cultivars resulting from cross-breeding several Pelargonium species native to southeastern Africa. The 'Mrs Wren' geranium is an old variety selected for its original colour and robustness. It forms a bushy and dense clump with a rounded habit, reaching up to 50 cm in all directions. Its flowering period lasts from May to June until the first frost. Its sturdy and succulent stems bear rounded, weakly lobed leaves, slightly tomentose and of an elegant bright green. They serve as a backdrop for clusters of single flowers, red with white edges.

Traditionally used in hanging baskets, geraniums also naturally find their place in beds, borders, and sunny flower beds. Pair your 'Mrs Wren' zonal geranium with Endurascape Lava Red verbenas with magnificent vermilion-red flowers and Anabel Snow White lobelias with numerous small white flowers. To complete the composition and add depth, consider an Illusion Midnight Lace morning glory with almost black foliage.

Note: Please be aware that our plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them in a sheltered location (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C for a few weeks before being planted outdoors once the risk of frost has definitively passed.

Planting and care

The 'Mrs Wren' zonal geranium appreciates sunny exposure in well-drained and well-tilled soil. As a heavy feeder, the geranium requires regular fertilisation at planting and every two weeks afterwards. It can be grown in pots or the ground. In regions with a mild climate, you can plant them in pots as early as March-April and bring them indoors in case of frosts. Elsewhere, wait until all risk of frost has passed to grow them. Choose a special geranium potting soil for planting in pots or flower boxes. Remove faded flowers as they appear to prolong the flowering period. Being frost-sensitive, it is generally grown as an annual. It can be stored in a frost-free location or protected from the cold (using winter protection fabric, preferably in mild climates) until the following spring.
