Description

Scaevola Deep Pink Touch, also known as fairy fan flower, is a fast-growing annual plant. It develops a wide, dense, and neat clump to form a superb cushion of vegetation covered with beautiful fan-shaped flowers in dark pink. They all open at the same time. In just a few weeks, it will bring life to patios and balconies and will bloom from spring to the end of summer.

Scaevola Deep Pink Touch belongs to the Goodeniaceae family. Its wild ancestor is native to the southeastern coasts of Australia. It is a tender subtropical plant that is perennial in its native habitat, but grown as an annual in our climates. Deep Pink Touch reaches a height of 25cm (10in) and a width of 40cm (16in). Its stems are flexible and long, making it an ideal candidate for pots. The dark green foliage is thick, with a glossy and granulated surface. It is theoretically evergreen if there is no frost. It blooms from April to autumn. The flowers are grouped in long spikes that emerge from the axils of the leaves. Each flower has 5 dark pink petals arranged in a fan shape.

When grown in pots, Scaevola Deep Pink Touch requires regular watering during the summer period, but not in excess. We recommend letting the substrate dry slightly between waterings and using containers with drainage holes to prevent water from stagnating. It is a great plant for pots and containers. It naturally pairs well with other Scaevola varieties, bidens, nemesias, nemesias, verbena, calibrachoa, alyssum, and lantana. It also looks stunning with Pennisetum advena 'Rubrum'.

Our young plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, transplant and store them in shelters (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before being planted outdoors once the risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

Plant in a sunny or partially shaded location. They require light and humus-bearing soil, and appreciate the addition of fertiliser. They tolerate rather dry soil quite well. You can also plant them in a pot, where they will need regular watering.

They are delicate perennials usually grown as annuals. Bring them indoors at the first frost to extend their flowering into autumn and winter. Outdoor cultivation is possible by the seaside, with good winter mulching.

Prune lightly in March.
