Description

The Daisy or Bellis perennis Bellastar Compact White is a particularly compact selection with white flowers. They are of a good size for a daisy, semi-double, and have flattened pompom-like shapes. The 'Bellastar Compact' series, available in red, white, and pink, brings together plants that are uniform in both their habit and flower colour. They bloom early, abundantly, and for a long period. They are biennial plants and should be planted in autumn. Gentle, innocent, hardy, and easy to grow, these daisies will delight beginner gardeners.

Belonging to the Asteraceae family, daisies represent innocence and attachment in the language of flowers. This is undoubtedly what attracts children and makes us want to scatter them throughout the garden to welcome in the spring.

Originally a perennial plant, it is used as a biennial. Hardy and undemanding, it likes the sun and prefers cool, well-drained soil. Its small size, 12 cm (5in), allows it to fit along the edge of a flowerbed, in front of daffodils and tulips, but you can also find a place for it among pansies and forget-me-nots in pots and containers. The base consists of a rosette of dark green leaves, from which several hairy stems emerge, each carrying a single flower. This flower, in the shape of a pompom, resembles a small slightly flattened ball, 3-4 cm (1-2in) in diameter, made up of very fine petals, positioned very densely with geometric regularity around a yellow centre.

The Bellastar Compact daisies will accompany you from February to May. Enjoy their charming colour by placing them near the house in pots, accompanied by the pastel shades of grape hyacinths, hyacinths, or certain daffodils. You can also interplant them in flower beds to soften the bolder colours of some tulips.

Note: Please be aware that our young plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant them as soon as possible, into pots, containers, or directly into flowerbeds.

Planting and care

The clumps of Bellastar Compact daisies should be transplanted directly into pots or planters upon receipt. Monitor moisture levels and regularly provide fertiliser (about twice a month). They prefer a sunny or semi-shaded site. If you wish to plant them in the ground, initially transplant them into a pot. Keep an eye on watering, but do not saturate the soil. There is no need to keep them in a greenhouse, they will be content with a sheltered spot. In September or even October, you can transplant them directly into place. Slugs and snails are fond of their young shoots, a line of ash around the base will protect them. By removing faded flowers, you will encourage the emergence of new buds.
