Very pretty! The young plants are already quite big and promising! Once received and planted, as soon as I can, I will pot them in a planter, hoping that the storm "Kirk" won't damage them all! Thank you very much!

Description

The Pansy or Viola hybrida Blue Moon is a selection that offers a colour that is both fresh and very tender, like spring. Its flowers, of medium size, combine two lavender blue petals, veined with a deeper blue, surmounting 3 petals of a soft cream yellow, sometimes almost white. The colder it gets, the more the flower is tinged with blue. They are borne by compact, floriferous plants that are resistant to cold, disease, and heat. This variety regrows very well in spring and does not bolt with the first heat, which ensures a long flowering of quality. It is perfect for potted plants, borders, hanging baskets...

Horned violets, sometimes called perennial Pansies, are actually hybrids that are grouped together in the Viola x williamsii group. The 'Blue Moon' variety is a fairly long-lived variety that produces ramified plants that quickly form compact clumps, with a slightly spreading habit, 20 cm (8in) tall and 20 to 30 cm (8 to 12in) wide. They bloom from late winter to the end of spring, or from the end of spring to the end of summer. These pansies offer medium-sized flowers, 4 cm (2in) in diameter, well open. They are composed of 3 lower petals cream to yellow with a pale blue edge and blue "whiskers"; and two upper petals pale blue more or less marked with cream and blue streaks. These flowers are also pleasantly scented. The semi-evergreen leaves, of medium green, are elliptical and widely crenate.

If you like it in the garden, it is in a planter, on the windowsill, to have it in front of your nose while staying warm, that the pansy will be most appreciated. You can associate it, for example, with primroses, wallflowers, grape hyacinths, daisies... and even with grasses like Japanese sedge for a graphic effect in a contemporary spirit. Combine them with heucheras and tulips. The blue-green of glaucous fescues also highlights them well.

The petals of pansies are edible, their colours will bring a touch of originality to your salads and pastries. For this, think of cultivating them as you would your vegetables, in the most natural way possible.

Note: Please be aware that our plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant them as soon as possible, in pots, planters, or directly in beds.

Planting and care

Very floriferous and fast-growing, Blue Moon pansies are hungry and appreciate a sunny or partially shaded exposure. They thrive in a humus-rich, neutral to acidic, moist and fertile soil. Feed them with liquid fertiliser for containers once or twice a week during the growing season. Water regularly but without excess. Remove faded flowers regularly to promote new flowering.
