Hello, On the order N101097285 from 08/11/2021, we purchased a Burgon&Ball Polished Steel Rake - RHS Range. We received the order on 12/11/2021. This weekend, on 27/11/2021, we used the rake for the first time in our country garden and it broke immediately (see photos below). We find this to be abnormal. The quality of the rake is very low-end, and we request a refund.

A sturdy and reliable traditional rake, featuring a long handle made of hard wood and a mirror-polished stainless steel head with 12 straight teeth that are resistant to twisting and corrosion. Perfect for refining the soil after digging, raking soil in flower beds, or for collecting and sweeping up any debris and leaves that may litter the garden. It is also a lightweight and easy-to-handle tool, very pleasant to use. Manufacturer's 10-year warranty.

This 13-tooth polished steel Burgon and Ball rake is a tool that is both robust, lightweight, and easy to handle, which can be used on both sides with or without teeth. The curved arc-shaped attachment at both ends allows for leveling the ground across the entire width and adds a slight degree of spring for added flexibility when necessary. This model has a corrosion-resistant steel head and a very long wooden handle that protects the back. Perfect for refining the surface soil, removing unwanted young weeds, leveling gravel paths, or for collecting and gathering various debris that detract from the neatness of the garden.

The rake is intended for scraping the soil, breaking up clods of earth, leveling surfaces, as well as gathering small elements thanks to its long, curved teeth. It is a basic tool for the gardener, very useful for working the surface soil, preparing seedlings in the vegetable garden, and maintaining a neat appearance in the garden in general. To refine the soil, it should be used on non-waterlogged soil after digging. This model can also be used, without forcing, to scarify the lawn, i.e. to scratch and aerate the grass while removing moss. This garden tool consists of a FSC-certified hardwood handle, with a socket where the stainless steel head, protected from rust, with 13 curved teeth, is attached. The polished finish limits the teeth's adhesion to the soil, saving the user's effort. The handle is compostable, and the metal head is recyclable.

* FSC is an international eco-label guaranteeing that the wood comes from sustainably managed forests

The English have the privilege of being the reference in gardening. Promesse de Fleurs has chosen the English company Burgon & Ball for the quality of its materials and its soon-to-be three-century-old steel manufacturing methods. The company has been working with steel in Sheffield since 1730, starting with a patent for solid steel sheep shears. The production of garden shears and equipment quickly surpassed that of sheep shears, but the stainless steel tools from Burgon & Ball are officially approved by the Royal Horticultural Society - probably the ultimate reward in the gardening industry.

The steel used for Burgon & Ball tools is alloyed with carbon to give it strength, and chromium to prevent the appearance of rust. It's a very precise balance that needs to be found between chromium and carbon, which varies for each part of the tool. For example, the socket, which must be strong enough to withstand bending, is made of thicker steel with a medium balance between chromium and carbon, while the blade of this rake, which requires significant strength and hardness to withstand flexing in the soil, is made with a higher carbon content than chromium.

The heat treatment allows for exactly the right hardness of the steel for each tool. Too hard and the metal can break or chip, not hard enough and it will bend or lose its sharpness. The thickness of the steel used is also dependent on the tool. This rake requires a thicker steel thickness than a knife, which can be much thinner steel. The thickness of the steel also affects the weight, so it's a balance that the company Burgon & Ball, with its almost 300 years of experience, has validated to ensure that its tools are both effective and enjoyable to use.

Directions for use The classic rake is used to gather leaves, lawn clippings, and small twigs, refine and level the surface of freshly dug or weeded soil, or even to flatten gravel paths. It is commonly used to fill in furrows and lightly compact the soil after sowing using the back of the head. This garden tool can also be used to scarify the short grass meadow, which means to scratch and aerate the grass while removing moss. To maintain the beautiful appearance of your tool, we recommend cleaning it with a stiff brush after each use and storing it away from moisture using the sturdy leather cord it is equipped with.
