Directions for use The hand-forged spade by Gschwind is designed for lifting, turning, and digging small surface areas, in light or sandy soils. Fertiliser (decomposed compost, organic fertiliser, horse manure) can be incorporated into the soil while it is being turned. The sharp spade is also used for making planting holes, creating sharp edges, cutting roots, and uprooting certain vegetable plants (leeks, potatoes, carrots, turnips). It is suitable for lighter soils. It is recommended to use a fork-spade in heavy or rocky soils. We recommend cleaning it with a hard brush after each use and storing it away from moisture. Once a year, sand the handle with fine sandpaper and oil it with a mixture of linseed oil and turpentine for easier application. Dilute half and half. Use boiled linseed oil for faster drying.
