Description

The 'Conference' Pear Tree is a variety known for the elongated shape of its pears as well as their unique flavour: juicy, sweet, and delicately tart.

The 'Conference' Pear Tree is a variety that prefers protected and sunny locations, avoiding frosty and windy situations. The flowers, formed by 5 pinkish-white petals, develop during the months from late March to April. The pears reach ripeness by the end of September, with a light green skin irregularly marbled with brown. The flesh, of a creamy white colour, is sweet, juicy, slightly firm, and granular near the core. Stored in a cool but frost-free and well-ventilated area, 'Conference' pears can be kept until January.

Very hardy, the 'Conference' Pear Tree is not susceptible to frost and can grow in all regions of Continental Europe. Easy to cultivate, it prefers fresh and deep soils but dislikes overly porous and chalky soils. In winter, add a shovelful of wood ash, rich in potash, to improve flowering and fruit quality.

Our 'Conference' Pear Trees are delivered in Verrier palmette quality, pruned with 4 branches in a double U shape. They bear fruit from the first year.

Planting and care

Plant the 'Conference' Pear Tree in a sunny location, in acidic or neutral soil, moist but not excessively so. Ensure good drainage by adding a thin layer of gravel to the planting hole. Do not bury the graft union. Pruning can be limited to a quick thinning out. Before the start of the growing season, remove dead wood, crossing branches, and water sprouts. In June, when the pears are forming, thin out the clusters by keeping only one fruit, this will result in larger pears at ripeness. You can add a small handful of wood ash, rich in potash, during the winter to improve fruiting.
