Description

Bacopa caroliniana is an aquatic plant that grows in moist soils. It can also grow with its feet in the water or submerged up to 60cm deep. Place this oxygenating plant in your pond or your pond, or in your aquarium. It forms a clump of upright stems about 30 cm in all directions, adorned with succulent leaves and covered in summer with small blue flowers.

From the Scrophulariaceae family, Bacopa caroliniana is a perennial plant native to the southern United States where it grows in fresh waters. This species can live in or out of water. It is a popular and easy plant for aquarium enthusiasts. The Carolina Bacopa consists of upright stems 10 to 30cm long. Each stem is adorned with green, fleshy, sessile and opposite leaves. They measure 2 to 3cm long. Emergent leaves are usually shinier. Those exposed to strong light turn red. When crushed, they release a lemony scent. From May to August, small bell-shaped flowers appear, 1 to 2cm long, in a lilac blue colour. They are carried by short peduncles arising from the axil of a leaf.

Bacopa caroliniana can grow both in and out of water. It will find its place in a pond or on the banks of a water feature. Here are some plants that you can associate with your Carolina Bacopa: Iris ensata 'Gusto' with its magnificent bicoloured flowers, white and blue, Lysimachia nummularia 'Aurea' with its golden foliage, or Hippuris vulgaris with its oxygenating properties.
