Description

Lovely perennial plant brought back by Michael during one of his trips to China. From the same family as our Pyrenean Ramonda and the South African Saintpaulia, this perennial plant forms a carpet of glossy and evergreen leaves, slowly spreading with the help of its fleshy rootstocks. When it is happy, it forms a very pretty ground cover from which emerge large tubular flowers, widely open, pale pink on the outside and with the throat inside flesh pink, speckled with dark pink.

A very unique plant, with excellent cold resistance, which we have planted in our light woodland alongside hostas, Ophiopogon, and Epimedium.

Planting and care

Easy to grow in a soil rich in humus, without limestone, always remaining moist but well-drained. It dislikes suffocating soils but tolerates clay soil very well if it is covered with dead leaves and remains draining. In our garden, it retains its foliage even during long and cold winters.
