Description

The Achillea millefolium 'Jacqueline', also known as Yarrow, is a vigorous and floriferous perennial plant with light flowering in soft pink corymbs. Its light, feathery foliage, with a matte silver-green colour, is intensely fragrant even when dry. It forms a light and abundant clump, deciduous or semi-evergreen. From June to September, this perennial companion accompanies summer blooms and blends with the blue stars of asters. Exuberant and undemanding, this garden regular brings a nostalgic charm to unpretentious borders and lightens up dried or fresh bouquets. Easy to grow in all regions.

The 'Jacqueline' Yarrow is an evergreen perennial plant, stoloniferous, with an upright clumping habit. It belongs to the Asteraceae family. This is an excellent cultivar, reaching 60 to 80 cm (24 to 32in) in height when flowering, 20 to 25 cm (8 to 10in) for the foliage. It spreads over 50 cm (20in) or more.

The remarkably long flowering period extends from June to September. The colour is a lovely pastel pink, slightly bluish. The flower heads, which appear at the tops of the stems, form flat or slightly domed corymbs, about 7 cm (3in) in diameter. The stem is channelled and villous. The foliage is deciduous or semi-evergreen, highly aromatic even when dry, and finely dissected into strips. The leaves are feathery and dark green with silvery reflections.

The 'Jacqueline' Yarrow will integrate well in a rockery, on top of a wall, as a border, or on a slope where it will contribute to fixing and protecting against erosion. This stoloniferous plant can be used as ground cover on large surfaces. It tolerates root competition from trees, making it also a good ground cover along the edge of woodland. As it is easy to grow and tolerates drought well, it is perfect for dressing the base of shrub roses or bordering a sunny flower bed.

Planting and care

The Achillea millefolium 'Jacqueline' can be planted all year round in buckets at a rate of approximately 5 per square meter in well-prepared and well-drained soil. It will grow in any type of soil, even limestone, dry or moist, as long as it is well-drained. It can even adapt to clay soils, if they are healthy and well-amended. It will tolerate partial shade but prefers full sun. Remove faded flowers and trim back all vegetation at the end of the season to encourage the growth of new shoots in spring. Divide the clump in spring.
