Aster novi-belgii Rosenpompom

Aster novi-belgii 'Rosenpompom' is a robust perennial, which blooms between September and October, with numerous deep pink flowers resembling small pompom daisies. The spreading crown produces branched stems, adorned with lanceolate, dark green and glossy leaves.

Aster novi-belgii 'Rosenpompom' is a tall Aster, reaching 100 cm (39in) in height. Easy to grow, it brings life to the garden in late summer and early autumn, when most flowering perennials have disappeared. It thrives in a sunny or slightly shaded position, sheltered from strong winds, in rich and moist soil. You can plant this variety at the back of borders, paired with late-flowering perennials such as chrysanthemums and other late-flowering perennials, heucheras with their foliage providing an excellent contrast of warm colours, or grasses with delicate foliage. These asters are also excellent cut flowers.

Aster novi-belgii, from which this charming variety originates, along with the Aster novae-angliae, are the two main species of large asters. Asters belong to the Asteraceae or Composite family, which mostly consists of herbaceous plants. There are numerous floriferous varieties, of all sizes and in an extremely wide range of colours.

There are other species of Asters that bloom at different times of the year. For spring, there are Aster alpinus and Aster tongolensis; for summer, Aster amellus or Aster frikartii; for autumn, Aster cordifolius, Aster dumosus, Aster ericoides, Aster lateriflorus, Aster novae-angliae, or Aster novi-belgii.
