The received plants had slightly wilted leaves, the young plants of my entire order were defective, everything died within the first week. I even went to the store, you don't get individuals in real, with perennials like these, you have to do it.

Description

The flowers of Aster novi-belgii 'Weisses Wunder' bloom between September and October. This robust and extremely floriferous perennial literally transforms into bouquets of small white daisies. The spreading crown produces branched stems adorned with lanceolate, dark green and glossy leaves.

Aster novi-belgii 'Weisses Wunder' is a Tall and easy to grow Aster, reaching 100 cm (39in) in height. It brings life to the garden in late summer and early autumn, with beautiful, brilliant flowering that takes over from summer perennials. It thrives in a sunny or slightly shaded position, protected from strong winds, in rich and moist soil. You can plant it at the back of borders, paired with chrysanthemums and other late-flowering perennials such as echinaceas, helianthuses, or heucheras that create an excellent contrast of warm colours, or even with grasses with fine foliage. These asters are also excellent cut flowers.

Asters belong to the family of Asteraceae or Composites, which mostly comprises herbaceous plants. Aster novi-belgii, from which this beautiful variety originates, and Aster novae-angliae, are the two main species of tall asters. There are numerous varieties, available in all sizes and in an extremely diverse range of colours. Several species of Asters are associated with each season, including Spring Asters such as Aster alpinus or Aster tongolensis; Summer Asters such as Aster amellus or Aster frikartii; and Autumn Asters such as Aster cordifolius, Aster dumosus, Aster ericoides, Aster lateriflorus, Aster novae-angliae, or Aster novi-belgii.

Planting and care

Plant Aster novi-belgii 'Weisses Wunder' in autumn or spring in rich and moist soil. It prefers a sunny exposure but can tolerate partial shade. We advise you to protect it from strong winds that can flatten the clumps. Aster novi-belgii is particularly susceptible to powdery mildew, a fungus that forms a whitish deposit on the foliage and buds, weakening the plant. As a preventive measure, maintain a spacing of at least 70 cm (28in) between the plants and regularly clean around them. Remove affected parts (where possible) as soon as the first signs of the disease appear. Treat preventively from May, with organic products. You can pinch the tips of the stems 15 cm (6in) above the ground towards the end of May to make the plant more compact. To encourage the emergence of new shoots, cut the stems of faded flowers. To prevent them from breaking under their own weight, it is also advisable to stake tall asters that become top-heavy when in bloom.
