Description

The Dianella 'Cassa Blue' is a trendy and architectural perennial with evergreen foliage of a magnificent intense blue colour. Decorative all year round, this clump-forming plant is ideal for all gardens with a mild climate and by the seaside. Elsewhere, it will look sensational in a large pot on a terrace. In spring, small violet star-shaped flowers with golden yellow stamens appear. It is easy to grow in full sun or possibly in partial shade in a well-drained soil. Once established, it tolerates drought well.

From the Asphodelaceae family, Dianella caerulea is native to Australia. The 'Cassa Blue' variety is part of recent selections chosen for their compact habit and well-coloured foliage. Indeed, this variety forms a clump of ribbon-like leaves, slender and upright, measuring 40 to 50 cm in all directions, with a beautiful intense blue colour. In May-June, it is covered with clusters of violet star-shaped flowers with yellow centres.

Moderately hardy (up to -8°C in well-drained soil), the 'Cassa Blue' turquoise lilyturf is ideal in mild climate gardens. It withstands sea spray and naturally finds its place in seaside gardens. Elsewhere, it is best planted in a container. It is an excellent patio plant. In the garden, it will find its place at the front of a border or in a bedding scheme due to its small size. This architectural plant will thrive alongside white-flowering perennial plants that will complement its blueish foliage beautifully. Consider Achillea odorata, Double Diamond Agapanthus or Salvia nemerosa Sensation White.
