The Perennial Geranium ibericum 'White Zigana' is a rare form of Geranium ibericum, also known as Iberian Cranesbill, discovered in 1994 at high altitudes in northeastern Turkey. This beautiful variety forms a 40 cm (16in) tall dome, adorned from May to July with clusters of large flowers with white-blue petals veined with violet, well separated and marked with a strong notch. It has deciduous to semi-evergreen leaves, deeply cut, of a soft greyish green, which change colour in autumn. A carefree perennial, it will thrive in any good garden soil in partial shade or in full sun.
The perennial Geranium ibericum var Jubatum 'White Zigana' is a magnificent subspecies of Geranium ibericum, a robust and resilient perennial native to the Caucasus. 'White Zigana' stands out with its large corollas, initially white-blue and then white in the heart of summer, measuring 4 to 4.5 cm (2in) wide. They appear in June-July and are distinctly marked with violet veins, making them very bright. This plant forms a bushy clump 40 cm (16in) in all directions. The round, velvety, dark green and cut foliage takes on lovely orange colours in autumn. It forms a remarkable hemispherical clump, slowly spreading with the help of its short underground stolons, without ever becoming invasive.
The 'White Zigana' Geranium is suitable for all types of garden, from wild spaces to formal gardens with well-maintained beds. It grows very well in large pots on the terrace or balcony. It will be beautifully complemented by orange blooms, such as those of daylilies, Chinese Bellflower, and Alstroemeria aurantiaca. This variety blends perfectly with Geranium renardii and, in partial shade, with Euphorbia margalidiana or Euphorbia polychroma as well as the perennial Geranium Philippe Vapelle.

Botanical data
To plant your Geranium ibericum, work the soil to a depth of 20 cm (8in), crumbling it well and adding a base amendment such as dried blood or crushed horn. Position your plant, freed from its pot, by covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil. Fill in the hole and water generously to eliminate air pockets. If planted in dry weather, it is necessary to water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate root development.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
