A lovely variety of heuchera with green leaves marbled with silver-grey, featuring a long and abundant dark pink flowering period from May to September. Description

Heuchera 'Flower Power' is a new variety of heuchera that is reminiscent of the beautiful Heuchera 'Pluie de Feu' with its generous flowering. It distinguishes itself with softer-green foliage, beautifully marbled with pale silver-gray, and slightly less red flowers, perhaps even more abundant. From spring to summer, it produces a multitude of tiny campanulate flowers carried by tall, slender, and sturdy stems, dominating a clump of elegantly discreet, low-lying leaves. This adorable perennial enlivens the edges of paths for many weeks and illuminates the base of deciduous trees, in light sun or partial shade.

In recent years, heucheras have become essential perennial plants in our gardens. Their more or less evergreen foliage in winter, available in multiple shades, brightens up flower beds with brilliance. These plants from the Saxifragaceae family make formidable massif borders. They also give very good results in pots, allowing them to decorate even a modest terrace. Heuchera 'Flower Power' reaches about 40 cm (16 in) in height (when in bloom) and 30 cm (12 in) in width. Its light inflorescences will rise above a rosette of rounded and lobed leaves. The foliage, veined with dark green, more or less marbled with silver-grey on a light green background, will persist in winter if the cold is not too intense. The flowers are tiny, bell-shaped, and of a deep pink colour, carried by graceful stems. Flowering usually begins in May and continues until September if the soil remains slightly moist at all times.

Plant this Heuchera 'Flower Power' in large numbers to achieve good ground coverage, with spectacular flowering. You can also associate it with other varieties of heucheras in various colours, such as 'Tiramisu' or 'Miracle'. Conversely, you can play with contrasting flowers, like with Heuchera 'Cappucino' . Don't hesitate to combine this adorable heuchera with your white, pink, mauve, or purple roses, adding some blue or white peach-leaved bellflowers. This unpretentious perennial will also find its place near a peach or plum tree, for example, as these fruit trees will provide it with light shade that it will appreciate in summer.

Planting and care

Plant your Heuchera Flower Power in spring or early autumn. Prepare a planting hole of 20 cm x 20 cm x 20 cm (8 in x 8 in x 8 in). If your soil is heavy, mix some compost and sand into the crumbled soil, partially refill the hole, and place your bucket (after removing the pot) so that the top of the plant's root ball is covered with 3 cm (1 in) of soil. The addition of a basal fertiliser (dried blood or crushed horn) will nourish your plant during its rooting period without risk of burning. Firm down the soil and water generously to eliminate air pockets. If the weather is dry, you will need to water regularly for a few weeks to encourage the establishment of your plant. Subsequently, you will only need to water in case of a prolonged drought or heatwave. Heucheras renew their foliage at the end of winter, so we recommend cutting back the previous year's leaves in January or February.
