Description

Heuchera 'Pink Panther' is a beautiful perennial ground cover with purple-pink foliage streaked with darker veins. It brightens up flower beds in light sun, partial shade, or even full shade. In summer, it produces delicate pale pink bell-shaped flower stems, which enhance its appeal even more.

In recent years, heucheras have become essential plants in our gardens. Their evergreen foliage, available in multiple shades, adds brilliance to flower beds. These plants, from the Saxifragaceae family, make excellent borders for flower beds. They also perform very well in pots, allowing them to decorate even a modest terrace. Heuchera Pink Panther reaches about 35 cm (14 in) in height and 40 cm (16 in) in width, and its airy inflorescences will rise above its lobed foliage. The foliage transitions from purple-violet to metallic purple, creating a subtle spectacle.

Heuchera Pink Panther, like many heucheras, is not very demanding when it comes to soil type, as long as it is well drained. In heavy soil, it is preferable to amend the planting soil with sand or well-decomposed compost. It prefers partial shade or shade, but still needs some light, at least in the morning, to express its beautiful colours. Once established, it can tolerate temporary droughts.

You can also easily propagate it by cuttings, by taking a section of its creeping stems, which will allow you to create an entire border in a few years. This is also a way to rejuvenate the clump, which sometimes tends to thin out after 3 to 5 years of growth.

Plant this heuchera in large numbers to achieve a spectacular and dense ground cover effect, but you can also associate it with other varieties with similar colours such as 'Silver Scrolls' or 'Plum Pudding'. On the other hand, you can create contrasts, such as with Heuchera 'Citronelle', for example. In the shade, it will enhance the dark foliage of ferns and pair perfectly with Ophiopogon 'Niger'.

Planting and care

Prepare a planting hole measuring 20 cm x 20 cm x 20 cm (8 in x 8 in x 8 in). If your soil is heavy, mix some compost with the crumbled soil, partially fill the hole, and place your bucket (after removing the pot) in such a way that the top of the plant's root ball is covered with 3 cm (1 in) of soil. Adding a base fertiliser (dried blood or crushed horn) will nourish your plant during its rooting period without the risk of burning. Firm the soil and water generously to eliminate air pockets. If the weather is dry, you will need to water regularly for a few weeks to encourage your plant's establishment. Heucheras renew their foliage in late winter, so we recommend cutting back the previous year's leaves in January or February.
