Description

Heuchera 'Bronze Beauty' is a vigorous perennial with a bushy habit that blooms from June to July. It produces cream-white flowers in small bell-shaped clusters along an upright stem. These flowers are accompanied by persistent foliage in bronze with coppery reflections that creates a contrast. The leaves are large, measuring over 10 cm (4 in) in diameter.

At maturity, Heuchera 'Bronze Beauty' can reach a height of 60 cm (24 in) with a spread of 50 cm (20 in). This very hardy plant is ornamental. Once very popular in our grandparents' gardens, it is now making a comeback with new cultivars offering a wide range of colours.

Heuchera is found in rockeries and shaded areas as well as borders and large flower beds. It can also be grown in containers on terraces. The flowers are good for cutting and the bell-shaped clusters add lightness to bouquets.

Heuchera 'Bronze Beauty' pairs well with grasses such as Carex comans or Carex oshimensis 'Evergold' as well as a multitude of perennials in orange hues, but it is with tulips that it offers the most beautiful combinations, especially with the 'Princess Irene' Triumph tulip.

Planting and care

Grow Heuchera Bronze Beauty in full sun or partial shade. If you want to grow it in the shade, place it in a moist location. Plant the heuchera in a light, fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Good garden soil is perfectly suitable. When planting, prepare a planting hole of 20 cm x 20 cm x 20 cm (8 in x 8 in x 8 in). If your soil is heavy, mix some compost with the crumbled soil, partially fill the hole, and place your bucket (after removing the pot) so that the top of the plant's root ball is covered with 3 cm (1 in) of soil. Adding a slow-release fertiliser (dried blood or crushed horn) will nourish your plant during its rooting period without the risk of burning. Firm the soil and water thoroughly to eliminate air pockets. If the weather is dry, you will need to water regularly for a few weeks to encourage the establishment of your plant. Heucheras renew their foliage in late winter, so we recommend cutting back the previous year's leaves in January or February. The woody stump tends to emerge from the ground, so apply a mulch every year. If necessary, lift and replant the clumps from September to October, with the collar level with the ground, or replace the plants.
