Planting and care

Outside of a few annuals, most are excellent summer perennials, even though they have a reputation for poor hardiness; most of the species and varieties we grow have withstood all of our winters. The only drawback of certain varieties, especially hybrids, is that they can sometimes be short-lived; the stumps hollow out and rot. The best way to make them last is to divide the stumps every 2 to 3 years, preferably in spring. Once rejuvenated, they will be your companions for life. All of them are deciduous and the foliage completely disappears in winter.
