Description

We're offering you a Collection of Lychnis flos-cuculi in shades of pink and white, ranging from single to double flowers, to enhance areas of the garden where the soil never completely dries out, even in summer. These perennials, commonly known as Ragged Robin, are valued for the delicacy and poetry of their flowering, which extends from May to July. Their fairly slender habit encourages grouping them together to create a hazy mass effect. They are excellent cut flowers and also perfect for English gardens... and the cool, humid English climate.

The collection consists of:

x 1 Ragged Robin (Lychnis flos-cuculi): the wild species recognisable by its light pink single flowers, 3 cm in diameter, with finely cut petals. This plant reaches up to 70 cm in height.

x 1 Ragged Robin 'Petit Henri': a lovely, shorter (50 cm) variety, producing very double, tousled flowers in pure white, 3 cm in diameter.

x 1 Ragged Robin 'Jenny': a variety reaching 40 cm in height, its flowers are fluffy pompons in a tender and nuanced pink, 3 cm in diameter.

These adorable perennial plants are also called 'Cuckoo Flower' because they bloom when the cuckoo sings. They are sturdy and resistant to cold despite the delicate appearance of their flowering. Their small, abundant flowers are carried on beautiful purple stems. Their stoloniferous roots spread over time without becoming uncontrollable.

You should plant these Ragged Robins in spring or autumn in rich, clayey to humus-bearing soil that remains slightly to very moist in summer, especially if the plants are exposed to the sun. In any case, these perennials do not tolerate drought. Leave a spacing of 60 cm to 80 cm so that each plant can express its full potential. Lychnis flos-cuculi forms clouds of flowers in borders, in wet meadows, and of course on the banks of a water feature. The variety with single flowers, slightly taller than the other two, should be placed at the back. To accompany them, consider, for example, Siberian Irises, Riverside Thistles, and Astilbes that appreciate the same environments. In the background of your border, you can plant Purple Loosestrife, for example.
