I planted them last autumn and was waiting for them to establish before giving feedback: they have all developed perfectly. It is now June: currently, the young plant is producing its foliage and the flowers will come next year (it takes 2 years for a mullein to flower). It is worth noting that it has a significant soil footprint, which should be taken into consideration when planting.

Description

Verbascum bombyciferum 'Polarsommer' is also known as mullein or great mullein and grows in all types of poor, limestone, stony and dry soil.

Verbascum 'Polarsommer' is biennial or perennial and blooms in the heart of summer, from July to September. It produces a large rosette of downy, frosty white leaves with blue highlights, from which large spikes of yellow flowers emerge.

Verbascum is a plant of poor and arid lands that grows in the sun. It is short-lived but ensures its continuation through generous self-seeding.

Stunning in a dry garden associated with Stipa tenuifolia or S. gigantea, Centranthus ruber 'Coccineus' and Salvia nemorosa 'Caradonna'.

Planting and care

Grow in well-draining, limestone, sandy or rocky soil. Verbascum bombyciferum enjoys very sunny spots. Do not cut off the faded flower spikes, as they ensure the plant's longevity by self-seeding in large quantities.
