Roses prefer a sunny location (at least 4 to 5 hours of sun per day), but sheltered from the scorching midday rays and strong winds. Roses appreciate loose, well-drained soil rich in humus. They prefer slightly acidic soil, but will adapt to any garden as long as the soil is well-worked and sufficiently rich. To plant your rose, prepare the soil by crumbling it and adding an amendment, such as bonemeal, at the bottom of the planting hole. Water abundantly after planting to remove air pockets. To achieve abundant flowering in your climbing roses, regularly bend and tie the branches that can grow up to 1 m (3ft) in a week during summer. Each bend leads to a lateral shoot that ends in a bouquet of flowers. Don't hesitate to use this technique; you will be rewarded.
