Rose bush arrived sick and quite damaged (broken branches). Planting in open ground done with a lot of care, fingers crossed for it to recover properly.

Description

Rosa Terra Botanica (Pinewcat) is a unique creation that beautifully celebrates the eponymous theme park in Angers. The vigorous bush bears young foliage that starts out purple and turns dark green, perfectly highlighting the two-tone orange colour of its large double roses. Starting off as a vibrant orange, the flowers gradually fade while revealing the golden underside of the petals. Orange is a rare colour in the garden, and pairs particularly well with blue and white. Terra Botanica roses emit a light grapefruit fragrance. They are lovely in a vase.

Rosa Terra Botanica forms a well-branched bush with vigorous and rapid growth. At maturity, it will reach about 80cm (32in) in height and 50 to 60cm (20 to 24in) in width. It blooms in three waves from May-June until late in the season. Its solitary 10cm (4in) diameter roses are turbinate at first, carried by long thorny stems. They are composed of multiple petals that open up into a naturally flat cup shape. Their fragrance is light and more noticeable in warm and calm weather. This rose has excellent disease resistance. This deciduous and hardy shrub loses its leaves in autumn. It thrives when planted in rich, deep soil that remains slightly moist in summer.

Rosa Terra Botanica looks wonderful in a large rose bed, at the front of a shrub bed, or planted in groups of 3 specimens in a well-maintained small garden. The beautiful colour of its flowers pairs well with white, yellow, orange, or red blooms, as well as the entire range of blues. Consider planting it near very easy-to-grow plants such as perennial geraniums (Geranium G. 'Blue Cloud', G. 'Anne Folkard', G. 'Nimbus', G. 'Orion'), campanulas (lactiflora, rapunculoides), catmints, perennial salvias, perovskia, and caryopteris. Dwarf buddleias also make lovely companions for bush roses. Its flowers can be used to create warm bouquets for the home.

Planting and care

Work your soil to a depth of 25cm (10in) by crumbling the soil and placing a base amendment such as dried blood or dehydrated horn at the bottom of the planting hole. Position your young plant in the hole, removed from its pot. Cover the top of the root ball with 3cm (1in) of soil, fill in, and water thoroughly to eliminate air pockets. In dry weather, water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate root development. Provide your rose with special rose fertiliser that stimulates flowering. Choose a sunny location, or partial shade in very hot regions.
