Thank you to the individuals (Shauna for order preparation and Cerise from the shipping department), the bare-root rose received appears healthy. Planted near the variety 'The Fairy', I am now patiently awaiting its establishment... (or not?).

More information

A charming bush, which blooms with remarkable regularity between May-June and October. Its double roses, shaped in the old-fashioned way, are a dazzling white, barely touched with cream at the heart. They bloom in clusters on dense and well-branched vegetation, adorned with semi-matte foliage that is perfectly resistant to diseases. A highly versatile and carefree variety, stunning in flowerbeds, groups, low hedges, in a large border, but also in pots.

Description

The Rosa 'Marina Picasso' is a small romantic bush that blooms with incredible generosity from late spring to the first frost. Its roses, almost pure white, with nostalgic charm, bloom in small clusters on foliage that does not stain and remains decorative throughout the season. With exceptional disease resistance and reliability, it is also a versatile variety that can be used in various ways, both in the garden and in pots. Definitely worth discovering!

The Rosa 'Marina Picasso' is a creation of the Meilland house registered in 2019. This excellent variety won the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg Baden-Baden Prize (Germany) in 2016 and the "Coup de Cœur" Prize of the SNHF Jury in 2019. It is a small bush that forms a dense, vigorous, thorny, and flexible shrub in a few years. At maturity, it reaches an average height of 85 cm (34in) and an average width of 55 cm (22in). Its foliage is abundant, composed of green, semi-matte leaflets that are disease-resistant. The foliage is deciduous and falls in autumn. The flowering is exceptionally regular from May-June to October-November. The 8 cm (3in) wide corollas are double, gathered in clusters of 3 to 12, each composed of 70 to 80 petals arranged in quarters. The buds open into delicately cream-washed virgin cups. The flowers of this rose are not scented, but they resist rain very well.

The floribunda roses allow for beautiful small hedges, planted mixed along the terrace or in small shrub beds. Combine them with ground cover roses, abelias, nandinas, or caryopteris, for example. They are good companions for foxgloves and tall gypsophiles. The modest size, generosity, and resistance of 'Marina Picasso' make this rose an ideal candidate for all gardens, even small ones and container gardening. It can be used in various ways according to each gardener's preferences: in a rose bed, alongside other white varieties ('Marie Pavie', 'Swanny'), as well as red or orange. Like all roses, it looks stunning mixed with easy-care plants such as perennial geraniums, catmints, or asters. And its roses are beautiful in small bouquets or centrepieces, along with double and white clematis flowers, for example.

Planting and care

Plant this floribunda rose from November to March, in ordinary, well-loosened and free-draining soil. Roses prefer clayey soils, rather heavy than light. In soil that is too sandy, too compact or too dry in summer, it is preferable to bury compost, decomposed manure or leaf-mould at the bottom of the planting hole. However, this rose dreads waterlogged soils in winter. Place it in a sunny position, at most in partial shade. Roses are greedy plants, a specific rose fertiliser application will be beneficial when the foliage emerges, then regularly during the entire flowering period.

To encourage re-blooming, regularly remove faded flowers. Floribunda rose varieties are more vigorous and floriferous than large-flowered rose varieties. Therefore, the stems should be pruned to about a quarter of their length (4 to 6 buds from the base of the stem) at the end of winter. Always prune above an outward-facing bud, so that the bush thickens and the branches do not become tangled in the centre of the shrub.
