ADR
A delightful modern rose from the Parfuma collection, developed in Germany by Kordes Rosen. It is generous, repeat-flowering, and naturally disease-resistant, but possesses all the charm and fragrance of old-fashioned roses. Its double roses, a rare pink with hints of lilac, reveal a rich and subtle perfume, both sweet and balanced, with rustic and fruity undertones. How can one resist the charm of this vigorous, proudly upright rose, adorned with beautiful, dark green foliage, and blooming for months? It was awarded the A.D.R. label in 2018.

Description

The Catherine de Medicis Rose from the Parfuma collection is a selection from Globe Planter® in partnership with the German rose breeder Kordes Rosen, known for their particularly floriferous, hardy, and disease-resistant creations. This upright and bushy shrub, with vigorous growth, is adorned with beautiful dark green foliage that serves as a backdrop for clusters of double and relaxed roses, in a rare purple pink color, with a subtle fragrance, with citrus and fruity undertones for the top note, hovering over a sweet and balanced heart note. The flowering continues throughout the summer on this small bush that received the highly demanding A.D.R German label in 2018. A charming and carefree rose, ideal for use in flower beds, with small bushes or perennials. Its modest growth also makes it suitable for potted cultivation. And its romantic flowers are beautiful in a vase.

The Rosa (x) floribunda Catherine de Medicis ('KORjupvio') is a very recent introduction from the German rose breeder Kordes. This lovely creation is part of a series of roses, the Parfuma series, selected for their fragrance, among other criteria. It is characterized by an upright and bushy habit, well branched. This bush reaches about 80 cm (32in) in height and 50 cm (20in) in width. Its thorny stems bear reddish young shoots that unfold into dark green leaves, divided into 5 finely toothed leaflets, slightly shiny, resistant to diseases. Its flowering is long, renewing in successive waves from June to October if the soil remains moist. The buds, in a purple pink color, enclosed in green sepals, open into double cups, arranged in a somewhat informal manner, gathered in terminal clusters.

Their fragrance has been analyzed by 'noses' who describe it as follows: the base note is spicy, the heart note combines green apple and raspberry, while the top note evokes freshly grated lemon zest. The scent of the roses is at its peak at noon and in the evening, after a hot and sunny day.

Floribunda roses can be used to create beautiful small hedges, planted mixed along the edge of the terrace or in borders of small shrubs. Combine them with abelias, Mexican orange blossoms, or caryopteris, for example. They are good companions for phlox paniculata and tall baby's breath. This 'Catherine de Medicis' variety will be enhanced when planted in groups of 3 plants, forming a large, fragrant, and extremely bright bush for months. It can, for example, be surrounded by catmints and perennial or shrubby salvias with blue, fuchsia, mauve, or white flowers. Also, associate it with white ground cover roses (Swany, Marie Pavie...), chamomiles, or delicate grasses like Stipa (barbata, pennata, tenuifolia). This very hardy rose that requires little maintenance thrives in full sun or partial shade. It will delight all gardeners, whether beginners or experienced.

Planting and care

Plant the Baroness Caroline floribunda rose from November to March, in ordinary, well-prepared and drained soil. Roses prefer clayey soils, rather heavy than light. In overly sandy, compact or dry soil in summer, it is advisable to incorporate compost, decomposed manure or compost at the bottom of the planting hole. However, this rose is sensitive to waterlogged soils in winter. Place it in a sunny location, preferably with some shade. Roses are nutrient-hungry plants, so a specific fertilizer application will be beneficial at the beginning of vegetation and regularly throughout the flowering period.

To encourage reblooming, regularly remove faded flowers. Floribunda rose varieties are more vigorous and more floriferous than large-flowered rose varieties. Therefore, prune the stems to about a quarter of their length (from 4 to 6 eyes from the base of the stem) at the end of winter. Always prune above an outward-facing eye to promote bushy growth and prevent branches from intertwining in the center of the branches.

Roses are often stained or unsightly in late summer, but this is not a problem for their development. These spots are not harmful to the rose; it is a natural phenomenon.
