Thanks to Max for preparing the order and Aline from the shipping department, the bare-root rose received is healthy. Planted near the 'Bobino' variety, I am now patiently waiting for it to take root.

More information

This modern hybrid tea is a beautiful new addition to the Parfuma collection, both floriferous, fragrant and highly disease-resistant. Its large, well-formed double roses in a delicate, soft apricot pink shade are very bright. Undoubtedly elegant, they exude a complex fragrance with both floral and fruity notes. Description

The Rose 'Grande Duchesse Louise', one of the latest additions to the beautiful Parfuma collection, first charms with its large, double roses, well-formed, offering a delicate apricot pink colour, both warm, soft and bright, surrounded by a rich fragrance with notes of white flowers and fruits. It will also seduce rose lovers for its good disease resistance, hardiness and ease of cultivation. Like all modern hybrid teas, it blooms repeatedly, from late spring to autumn. A symphony of magic and charm but with a slightly stiff habit, 'Grande Duchesse Louise' will benefit from planting in groups of 3 plants, accompanied by low-growing perennials with light flowers. Its beautiful, wonderfully scented roses are perfect in a vase.

The Rose 'Grande Duchesse Louise' or 'KORbrocaze' is a recent introduction by the German rose breeder Kordes Rosen (2017). This lovely creation is part of a series of roses, the 'Parfuma' selected for their fragrance, floribundity and natural resistance to rose diseases. It is characterised by an upright and narrow habit. This bush reaches about 1m (3ft) in height and 50cm (20in) in spread. Its strong, spiny, slightly stiff stems bear reddish young shoots that unfold into dark green, glossy leaves, divided into five wide, finely toothed leaflets, immune to diseases. Its flowering is long, repeating in successive waves from June to October if the soil remains moist. Its flowers are mostly solitary. The rounded flower buds, enclosed in green sepals, open into turbinate flowers 8 to 10 cm (3 to 4in) wide. Each flower is a gradient of shades from salmon pink at the centre to creamy white at the periphery.

Experts have analysed the fragrance, describing it as a harmonious blend of rich peach and apricot accords in the fruity prelude. The scent is sweet and creamy, with floral aspects similar to magnolia and tuberose. The scent has a hint of green pear, providing a pleasant freshness to the deep rose fragrance. Spicy notes mixed with jasmine make up the base of the fragrance.

This modern Rose, 'Grande Duchesse Louise', is a beautiful novelty that deserves to be discovered by lovers of scented roses. Elegant and sensual, it will find its place in the garden in a large rose bed, at the front of a shrub bed or planted in groups of 3 to 5 plants in isolation in a small garden. The tender colour of its flowers easily blends with all-white blooms but also with the entire range of blues and even lavender mauve. Consider planting it near easy-to-grow plants such as hardy geraniums (Geranium Rozanne, Blue Cloud, Anne Folkard, Nimbus, Orion), campanulas (lactiflora, rapunculoides), catmints, perennial salvias, paniculate gypsophila, foxgloves... Dwarf buddleias also make lovely companions for bush roses. Its flowers can create sumptuous bouquets that delicately perfume the house.

Planting and care

Planting your rose requires some preparation. Begin by working the soil to a depth of 25 cubic cm and adding a base amendment like blood, fish, and bone to the bottom of the planting hole. Remove the plant from its pot and position it by covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil. Refill the hole and water generously to eliminate any air pockets. It's essential to water the rose regularly for a few weeks during dry weather to help the roots grow. Use a special rose fertiliser that stimulates plant flowering. Choose a sunny location or partial shade to plant your rose in hot regions.

Roses may develop unsightly spots at the end of summer, but this is a natural occurrence and doesn't harm the rose's growth.
