Description

Fargesia murielae Bimbo is a dwarf bamboo forming a compact clump, spreading upwards. It is a non-running bush. This bush grows rapidly. Its sturdy canes are yellow and thin. They are upright and the plant measures 1 to 1.50m (3ft 4in to 4ft 11in) in height.

The foliage on the stems is evergreen and the abundant leaves are thinner and smaller than the Jumbo species. They are lanceolate and tapering at their tips. They turn a tender green colour and then orange with age.

Originally from central China, it is one of the hardiest bamboos. It has survived in countries in Eastern Europe with harsh winters. It is most often used as a windbreak, noise screen, or as an informal or trimmed hedge. Cultivated in isolated clumps or in flowerbeds, you can place it in a pot. It is a highly attractive bush in gardens.

Planting and care

The Fargesia murielae Bimbo appreciates partial shade even though it tolerates the sun. Avoid excessively drying exposures as it dislikes intense sun and drought. Reserve a shady spot for it, especially in the south. Plant this bamboo in rich, moist, rather heavy soil that retains water well. Plant it in spring or autumn. In a pot, monitor watering, especially when the foliage is very abundant. This bamboo withstands pruning well. Slugs can devour young shoots.
