Cordyline indivisa - Mountain Cabbage Tree

Cordyline indivisa is a large plant with decorative and evergreen foliage. This green to light green foliage consists of large undivided lance-shaped leaves arranged in a circular pattern on an upright stem.

The stem, or stipe, is a false trunk. It is formed by the accumulation of leaves that, when they fall, leave their bases (or sheaths) overlapping each other. These plants do not grow in width and do not divide into branches. Due to this characteristic, the growth of Cordyline indivisa is quite slow. It is therefore easy to cultivate in a pot for many years, especially since it has a fairly long lifespan and will not exceed 2m (6 ft 7 in) in height.

Cordylines, also known as Dracaena, are native to Southwest Asia and are not very hardy. Outside the Mediterranean region, it is best to cultivate them as conservatory plants. This means that they will thrive in a pot that can be brought indoors during winter in a cold greenhouse or an unheated conservatory. Flowering is rare, especially in pots, and consists of long clusters of cream-white flowers that develop into decorative bluish fruits.
