Asters are perennial plants that brighten up flower beds in the autumn with their colourful flowering! There are countless varieties, which come in beautiful shades of blue, purple, white or pink, as well as in different sizes. Small asters, less than 30 cm (12in) tall, are mainly derived from species such as Aster alpinus and Aster dumosus. Small asters are perfect for adding colour to rockeries or bordering flower beds.
Asters thrive in well-drained soils and sunny exposures. They spread easily thanks to their rootstocks and can sometimes naturalise.
