The Anise is a famous culinary and medicinal plant cultivated in the vegetable garden for its aromatic foliage and seeds. Under the name 'anise', several aromatic plants belonging to distinct botanical families are cultivated, including Green Anise (Pimpinella anisum) from the Umbelliferae family, Star Anise (Illicium verum), Hyssop Anise (Agastache foeniculum), and Vosges Anise, Caraway. Anise is a versatile herb that adds a distinct flavour to various dishes such as salads, pastries, sauces, fish dishes, and stews. It contains an essential oil that is widely used in aromatherapy. Anise can thrive in sunny areas of the vegetable garden and is not affected by heat. If your soil is too compact, you can improve it by adding sand, compost, and soil. Additionally, anise is known to repel aphids, caterpillars, and worms.
